Jonathan Kipnis, PhD, is a professor of neuroscience at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and director of UVA's Center for Brain Immunology and Glia (BIG).
Professor Kipnis has a major in biology and graduated in 2004 from the Weizmann Institute of Science with Prize of Excellence for doctoral studies. He worked in the lab of Professor Moshe Oren and the lab of Professor Michal Schwartz on the role of the immune system reactions in CNS injuries, and later moved to the US.
His lab focuses on the complex interactions between the immune and nervous systems and has recently shown that the immune system controls social behavior (Nature, 2016).
Professor Kipnis has received numerous awards for scientific achievements and he is also a member of the Carter Immunology Center, combining his passions for immunology and neuroscience. [Link]
